About the Quick BTQ 140
The BTQ 140 is a simple, proven bow thruster for boats of about 20 to 29 ft. It sits in a tube through the hull near the bow and gives you about 44 to 88 lb of push to move the bow sideways at the touch of a button. Jeanneau and Beneteau fit Quick thrusters at the factory, and this design has been in Quick’s catalog since at least 2012.
Quick’s US store sells it from $2,754, for the thruster only. You’ll want to make sure to get a control panel, the tube and a fuse to complete the install, because they don’t come in the box. Quick’s joystick runs $540, its push-button panel $465 and a short tube $467. Batteries, cable and a charger add about $800 to $1,458 more.

Owners mostly say it just works, and one Beneteau 41 owner used his hard for two years without a problem. The fault that has come up more than once is the main power switch tripping: two Jeanneau owners hit it on brand-new boats in 2023.
Quick says the thruster isn’t meant to run nonstop. Hold it on for about 5 minutes 40 seconds and the panel switches it off for 20 minutes to let the motor cool. The warranty is three years.
Installers will find the wiring figures and dimensions further down. For the rest of Quick’s line, read the Quick thruster review.

The Quick BTQ 140 against each kind of boat, in a 15 knot wind. Our sizing, from the finder’s own rules.
The first column is where one unit gives all the thrust the boat needs in 15 knots. The second is where the finder still lists it: the unit steers her in a 13 or 14 knot wind, within 15 percent of the 15 knot breeze this site sizes for. On a boat shorter than the first column’s shortest length, the unit is more than the boat needs.
How we size it
Our figure is the longest boat one unit can steer in a 15 knot wind. It is a range because each kind of boat catches the wind differently. Here every kind of boat it fits gets full thrust to 25 ft. The maker gives one range for every boat.
The table tries the Quick BTQ 140 on each kind of boat, at every length that kind of boat is built in. The wind is 15 knots and the rules are the finder’s own. A length counts as a fit when the unit gives the thrust that boat needs at the bow and the maker lists it for that length.
A boat up to 10 percent past the maker’s range still counts here, as it does in the finder. So the table runs up to 25 ft, just past Quick’s own range (20 to 23 ft).
It is sized for three kinds of boat here. For your own boat, the finder gives an answer that also counts your drive and who does the installing. The compare page sets this unit beside others.

For the install what the box leaves you to buy
The manual button above opens it on the maker's site. It has the hull, wiring and fuse figures for this model.
From Quick’s BTQ Series installation manual REV 005A and the TCD control manual, September 2025, read 30 September 2026.
- In the box
- The thruster with its reversing contactor and anode, a drilling template, gasket, O-ring, the manual.
- Bought separately
- "Recommended Quick accessories not included": the TCD control panels, the line switch, the THF fuse holder. Plus the fuse, the cable, a battery disconnection switch, a 4 A control fuse and switch, the tube.
- Charging
- The manual gives a battery table by model, in amp-hours and cold cranking amps, and a diagram with the panel on the service battery. It says nothing about how the thruster bank is charged.
The manual’s words, page 10: “Standard supply and material included in the package: Thruster, Drilling template, Gasket, O-ring, Installation and use manual, Conditions of warranty.”
The “other parts” line in the estimate above covers these parts as a range, $558 to $1,234 at Fisheries Supply’s prices on 30 September 2026 and 26 October 2026, because the exact items depend on your boat. The batteries, cable and charger have a line of their own. The cost page has what every maker says about each part.

The tunnel: length and depth rules
Tunnel length. The optimal length is three to four times the tube diameter. A ratio of up to six can be tolerated. Longer tubes lose more of the thrust to friction. Quick’s installation manual.
Depth below the waterline. In the bow and as low as possible, at least 0.75 times the tunnel diameter below the waterline, to avoid cavitation at the propeller. BTQ250 and BTQ300 installation manual, REV006C.
Our notes from the manual and listings
In the box: The thruster, a drilling template, gasket and O-ring. The TCD panel and the fuse holder are bought.
BTQ 140-20, 20 KGF, 12 V
Single propeller in a 140 mm tunnel. This 20 kgf version is a store-only model. The REV003A manual and both category pages carry only the 140-30 and 140-40. The US store's BTQ 140 page listed it in August. The category page puts the whole BTQ 140 series on boats of 20 to 33 ft. The band here is the US store's own figure for this version.
No product page gives a run time. The installation manual says the unit is not designed for continuous use and leaves the limit to the control panel. The panel's own manual cuts the command after about five minutes and resets it after a cool-down the panel computes. The tunnel sits at least three quarters of its diameter below the waterline.
Once a year the unit comes apart for inspection, anode included. The warranty runs three years from purchase, with repair or replacement at Quick's discretion. The warranty is void for maintenance by anyone Quick has not authorized or for non-original parts. Removal and reinstalling are at your cost. The price is Quick's US store's own for this size at 12 V, read 12 October.
BTQ 140-30, 30 KGF, 12 V
The 30 kgf BTQ 140, single propeller in a 140 mm tunnel. It has the same motor as the BTQ 125-30 in a wider tunnel, and the manual gives it a smaller fuse. The manual gives a 150 A fuse and a weight of 11.3 kg. Its cable is 2 AWG for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), 1 AWG to 10 m, 2/0 to 20 m.
The manual prints a fuse and cable sizes but no current draw and no battery figure.
BTQ 140-40, 40 KGF, 12 V
The 40 kgf BTQ 140, single propeller in a 140 mm tunnel. The manual gives a 225 A fuse and a weight of 12.2 kg. Its cable is 1 AWG for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), 2/0 to 10 m, 3/0 to 20 m.
Where each point above comes from
