About the Quick BTQ 125
The BTQ 125 is a step up from the BTQ 110 for a heavier small cruiser of about 20 to 29 ft. It sits in a tube through the hull near the bow and comes in two strengths, about 66 or 88 lb of push, both on 12 V. Quick has been building thrusters since 2007.
Prices start at $2,511 at Quick’s US store. You will need to spend another $540 on the controller as it is not included in the price, and that’s Quick’s joystick. The tube is extra as well, from $405, along with a fuse and holder. A battery, cable and charger add about $1,239 to $1,458 more.

The parts that wear on Quick’s tunnel thrusters are the motor brushes and the coupling that links the motor to the propeller drive. Quick sells that coupling for this size at $134. In Quick’s own words the thruster isn’t built for continuous duty, and the panel stops it after about 5 minutes 40 seconds of running, then locks it out for 20 minutes. Take it apart once a year and change the zinc each season. The warranty runs three years.
Installing it yourself? The installer section has every spec, and the Quick thruster review sets this model against the rest of the Quick range.

The Quick BTQ 125 against each kind of boat, in a 15 knot wind. Our sizing, from the finder’s own rules.
The first column is where one unit gives all the thrust the boat needs in 15 knots. The second is where the finder still lists it: the unit steers her in a 13 or 14 knot wind, within 15 percent of the 15 knot breeze this site sizes for. On a boat shorter than the first column’s shortest length, the unit is more than the boat needs.
How we size it
Our figure is the longest boat one unit can steer in a 15 knot wind. It is a range because each kind of boat catches the wind differently. Here every kind of boat it fits gets full thrust to 30 ft. The maker gives one range for every boat.
The table tries the Quick BTQ 125 on each kind of boat, at every length that kind of boat is built in. The wind is 15 knots and the rules are the finder’s own. A length counts as a fit when the unit gives the thrust that boat needs at the bow and the maker lists it for that length.
A boat up to 10 percent past the maker’s range still counts here, as it does in the finder. So the table runs up to 30 ft, just past Quick’s own range (20 to 28 ft).
It is sized for four kinds of boat here. For your own boat, the finder gives an answer that also counts your drive and who does the installing. The compare page sets this unit beside others.

We price a battery bank close to the thruster, as the makers recommend, with 10 to 20 ft of cable out and back: red for the positive, black for the negative, cut to length. They sit below the waterline, so a change means a haul-out or a diver.

The tunnel: length and depth rules
Tunnel length. The optimal length is three to four times the tube diameter. A ratio of up to six can be tolerated. Longer tubes lose more of the thrust to friction. Quick’s installation manual.
Depth below the waterline. In the bow and as low as possible, at least 0.75 times the tunnel diameter below the waterline, to avoid cavitation at the propeller. BTQ250 and BTQ300 installation manual, REV006C.
Our notes from the manual and listings
In the box: The thruster, a drilling template, gasket and O-ring. The TCD panel and the fuse holder are bought.
BTQ 125-30, 30 KGF, 12 V
The 30 kgf version, single propeller in a 125 mm tunnel. The category page puts the whole BTQ 125 series on boats of 20 to 33 ft. The band here is the US store's own figure for this version. The manual gives a 225 A fuse and a weight of 10.0 kg.
Its cable is 1 AWG for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), 2/0 to 10 m, 3/0 to 20 m. The manual prints a fuse and cable sizes but no current draw and no battery figure. No product page gives a run time. The installation manual says the unit is not designed for continuous use and leaves the limit to the control panel.
The panel's own manual cuts the command after about five minutes and resets it after a cool-down the panel computes. The tunnel sits at least three quarters of its diameter below the waterline. Once a year the unit comes apart for inspection, anode included. The warranty runs three years from purchase, with repair or replacement at Quick's discretion.
The warranty is void for maintenance by anyone Quick has not authorized or for non-original parts. Removal and reinstalling are at your cost. The price is Quick's US store's own for this size at 12 V, read 12 October.
BTQ 125-40, 40 KGF, 12 V
The 40 kgf version of the BTQ 125, in the same 125 mm tunnel with a bigger motor. The manual gives a 325 A fuse and a weight of 10.9 kg. Its cable is 2/0 for a total run under 5 m (positive plus negative), two 1 AWG per leg to 10 m, two 2/0 AWG per leg to 20 m.
Where each point above comes from
- The boat comes out of the water to install it: it needs a tunnel bore below the waterline. The mounting: a bore through the hull, or a housing recessed into it
